Paneer momos are a delightful snack featuring soft steamed dumplings filled with crumbled paneer, sauteed vegetables, and spices. The dough is kneaded into a smooth consistency and rolled into thin circular wrappers. A spoonful of paneer filling is added, and the edges are pleated to seal the dumplings. They are then steamed to perfection until translucent. The momos can be served hot with spicy red chutney, schezwan sauce, or mint yogurt dip. Perfect as an evening snack or appetizer, they are both delicious and nutritious.
Ingredients
For the Dough:
- 2 cups all-purpose flour (maida)
- tsp salt
- cup water (as needed)
For the Filling:
- 200 g paneer (crumbled)
- 1 medium onion (finely chopped)
- 1 medium carrot (grated)
- cup cabbage (finely shredded)
- 2 3 green chilies (finely chopped)
- 1 tsp ginger (grated)
- 1 tbsp soy sauce
- tsp black pepper powder
- Salt to taste
- 2 tbsp coriander leaves (chopped)
Instructions
Step 1: Prepare the Dough
- In a mixing bowl, combine all-purpose flour and salt.
- Gradually add water and knead to form a soft, smooth dough.
- Cover the dough with a damp cloth and let it rest for 20 30 minutes.
Step 2: Prepare the Filling
- In a pan, heat 1 tsp oil and saut the onions, carrots, cabbage, and green chilies for 2 3 minutes.
- Add grated ginger, soy sauce, black pepper, and salt. Stir well.
- Turn off the heat and let the mixture cool slightly.
- Mix in crumbled paneer and chopped coriander leaves. Combine thoroughly to form a cohesive filling.
Step 3: Roll Out the Dough
- Divide the dough into small, equal portions and roll them into balls.
- Using a rolling pin, flatten each ball into a thin circular wrapper, about 3 4 inches in diameter.
Step 4: Fill the Wrappers
- Place a spoonful of the paneer filling in the center of each wrapper.
- Gently bring the edges together, pleating and sealing them to form a momo shape (crescent or round).
Step 5: Steam the Momos
- Grease a steamer plate or line it with cabbage leaves to prevent sticking.
- Place the momos on the plate, ensuring they don't touch each other.
- Steam them over boiling water for 12 15 minutes or until the outer skin turns translucent.
Step 6: Serve and Enjoy
- Transfer the steamed momos to a serving plate.
- Serve hot with spicy red chutney, schezwan sauce, or mint yogurt dip for an irresistible snack or meal.
Pro Tips
- Use whole wheat flour for a healthier version of momos.
- Adjust the spice levels in the filling according to your taste.
- For extra flavor, you can add finely chopped garlic to the filling.
- Experiment with shapes, such as folding the momos into half-moons or pinching into pleated rounds.
Enjoy your homemade paneer momos as a satisfying snack or a light meal.
