Prepare dal, wash the chana dal thoroughly under running water until the water runs clear.

Cook the dal, pressure cook the dal with water, turmeric, and salt for 2–3 whistles, then drain excess water.

Prepare tempering, heat ghee, add cumin, garlic, ginger, and chilies, and saute until fragrant.

Cook onions and tomatoes, add chopped onions and cook until golden, then mix in tomatoes, red chili, coriander powder, and salt, cook until soft.

Combine dal and masala, add cooked dal to the masala, mix, and cook until dry. sprinkle garam masala.

Garnish and serve, garnish with coriander leaves and serve with roti or rice.
