Here's how to make tangy and crispy Murukku Snacks at home to pair with tea.
Prepare tomato puree, blend chopped tomatoes into a smooth puree and strain to remove seeds. set aside to use in the dough.
Mix dry ingredients, in a bowl, mix rice flour, gram flour, sesame seeds, cumin seeds, salt, turmeric, and red chili powder.
Add butter & knead the dough, add melted butter or hot oil to the dry ingredients and mix well. slowly add tomato puree and a little water, kneading into a soft, non-sticky dough.
Fill the murukku press, grease a murukku press and fill it with the prepared dough. use a star-shaped disc for spiral murukkus.
Heat oil for frying, heat oil in a deep pan over medium flame. test by dropping a small piece of dough, if it rises immediately, the oil is ready.
Shape & fry the murukkus, press the murukku dough directly into the hot oil in circular shapes. fry in batches, flipping occasionally, until golden brown and crispy.
Drain & Serve, remove the murukkus and place them on a paper towel to absorb excess oil. serve with masala chai or coffee and enjoy the crispy goodness.
