Prepare the dal, wash and soak moong dal for 20-30 minutes, then drain.

Heat ghee and temper spices, heat ghee, add cumin seeds, hing, and green chili.

Add dry spices, stir in turmeric, red chili powder, and coriander powder.

Cook the dal, add dal, salt, and 1½ cups water. mix well.

Simmer until cooked, cover and cook on low heat until dal is soft.

Garnish and serve, top with fresh coriander and serve hot with roti or rice.
