Here’s a simple recipe for turmeric rice:

1. Ingredients

– 1 cup basmati or jasmine rice
– 2 cups water or vegetable broth
– 1 tbsp vegetable oil or butter
– 1 small onion, finely chopped
– 2 cloves garlic, minced
– 1 tsp ground turmeric
– 1/2 tsp ground cumin (optional)
– 1/2 tsp salt (adjust to taste)
– Fresh cilantro or parsley, for garnish (optional)

2. Instructions

Step 1- Rinse Rice:

– Rinse the rice under cold water until the water runs clear. Drain well.

Step 2- Sauté Aromatics:

– In a medium saucepan, heat the oil or butter over medium heat. Add the chopped onion and cook until softened, about 3-4 minutes.
– Stir in the minced garlic and cook for an additional 1 minute.

Step 3- Add Spices:

– Stir in the turmeric and cumin (if using), cooking for about 1 minute until fragrant.

Step 4- Cook Rice:

– Add the rinsed rice to the pan and stir to coat with the spices.
– Pour in the water or broth and add the salt. Bring to a boil.

Step 5- Simmer:

– Reduce heat to low, cover, and simmer for 15-18 minutes, or until the rice is tender and the liquid is absorbed.

Step 6- Fluff and Serve:

– Remove from heat and let it sit, covered, for 5 minutes. Fluff with a fork and garnish with fresh cilantro or parsley if desired.
