Introduction:
Paneer Dhokla is a delightful fusion dish that combines the soft, spongy texture of traditional dhokla with the rich creaminess of paneer, a popular Indian cheese.
Ingredients:
To prepare Paneer Dhokla, you will need the following ingredients:
For the Dhokla Batter:
- 1 cup gram flour (besan)
- 1 cup grated paneer
- 1/2 cup yogurt
- 1/2 cup water
- 1 teaspoon ginger-green chili paste
- 1/2 teaspoon turmeric powder
- Salt to taste
- 1 teaspoon fruit salt (eno)
- 1 tablespoon oil
For the Tempering:
- 2 tablespoons oil
- 1 teaspoon mustard seeds
- 1 teaspoon sesame seeds
- 1/4 cup chopped coriander leaves
- 2-3 green chilies, chopped
- A pinch of asafoetida (hing)
Instructions:
STEP 1- Prepare the Dhokla Batter:
- In a mixing bowl, combine gram flour, grated paneer, yogurt, water, ginger-green chili paste, turmeric powder, salt, and oil. Mix well to form a smooth batter.
- Let the batter rest for about 10-15 minutes to allow the flavors to meld.
STEP 2- Steam the Dhokla:
- Meanwhile, grease a dhokla plate or any flat-bottomed vessel with oil.
- Just before steaming, add fruit salt (eno) to the batter and mix gently. The batter will become frothy.
- Immediately pour the batter into the greased plate and spread it evenly.
STEP 4- Steam the Dhokla:
- Place the dhokla plate in a steamer or idli maker and steam for about 10-12 minutes on medium heat, or until a toothpick inserted into the dhokla comes out clean.
- Once done, turn off the heat and allow the dhokla to cool for a few minutes.
STEP 5- Prepare the Tempering:
- Heat oil in a small pan. Add mustard seeds and let them splutter.
- Add sesame seeds and sauté for a few seconds until they start to crackle.
- Add chopped green chilies, chopped coriander leaves, and a pinch of asafoetida (hing). Sauté for another minute.
- Turn off the heat and pour the tempering evenly over the steamed dhokla.
STEP 6- Serve:
- Cut the Paneer Dhokla into desired shapes – squares or diamonds.
- Serve warm with green chutney or tamarind chutney for a delightful snack or appetizer.
