If you're eager to recreate this culinary sensation in the comfort of your own kitchen, you're in luck. In this article, we'll guide you through the step-by-step process of making these delectable dumplings at home
Introduction:
In recent years, social media platforms have become a hub for sharing innovative and mouthwatering recipes. One such viral sensation is the rice paper prawn dumplings – a delightful fusion of flavors and textures that has captured the attention of food enthusiasts worldwide.
Ingredients:
- 200g prawns, peeled and deveined
- 1 cup finely chopped cabbage
- 1/2 cup finely chopped carrots
- 2-3 spring onions, finely chopped
- 2 cloves garlic, minced
- 1 tablespoon soy sauce
- 1 teaspoon sesame oil
- Salt and pepper to taste
- 12-15 rice paper wrappers
- Warm water for soaking rice paper wrappers
- Sweet chili sauce or soy sauce for dipping (optional)
- Chopped cilantro or spring onion for garnish (optional)
Instructions:
STEP 1- Prepare the Filling:
- Begin by finely chopping the prawns into small pieces.
- In a bowl, combine the chopped prawns with cabbage, carrots, spring onions, minced garlic, soy sauce, sesame oil, salt, and pepper.
- Mix the ingredients thoroughly until well combined. Set aside while you prepare the rice paper wrappers.
STEP 2- Soften the Rice Paper Wrappers:
- Fill a shallow dish or large bowl with warm water.
- Take one rice paper wrapper and dip it into the warm water, ensuring it is completely submerged.
- Allow the wrapper to soften for about 15-20 seconds until it becomes pliable. Be careful not to over-soak the wrapper, as it may become too delicate to handle.
STEP 3- Assemble the Dumplings:
- Place the softened rice paper wrapper on a clean, flat surface.
- Spoon a small amount of the prawn filling onto the center of the wrapper, leaving some space around the edges.
- Fold the bottom half of the wrapper over the filling, then fold in the sides, and roll it up tightly into a cylinder shape, similar to a spring roll.
- Repeat this process with the remaining wrappers and filling until all the dumplings are assembled.
STEP 4- Steam the Dumplings:
- Prepare a steamer by filling a pot with water and bringing it to a gentle boil.
- Line the steamer basket with parchment paper or cabbage leaves to prevent the dumplings from sticking.
- Place the dumplings in the steamer basket, making sure they are not touching each other.
- Steam the dumplings for 8-10 minutes, or until the prawns are cooked through and the wrappers are translucent.
STEP 5-Serve and Enjoy:
- Once the dumplings are cooked, carefully transfer them to a serving plate.
- Garnish with chopped cilantro or spring onions if desired.
- Serve the rice paper prawn dumplings hot, with sweet chili sauce or soy sauce for dipping.
