Start by seasoning and forming beef patties, then cook them to perfection on a hot skillet. Add cheese on top while cooking to melt, creating a gooey cheesy layer. Toast the burger buns in butter for extra flavor and assemble with lettuce, tomato, onions, and any condiments of your choice. Add pickles for extra tanginess, then place the cheesy patty in the bun, and serve hot. Pair with fries or a side salad for a complete meal. The homemade touch brings out the fresh flavors of each ingredient.
Ingredients
For the Beef Patties:
- 500g ground beef (80/20 lean-to-fat ratio recommended for juiciness)
- Salt and pepper (to taste)
- 1 tsp garlic powder
- 1 tsp onion powder
- 1 tbsp Worcestershire sauce
- 1 egg (optional, for binding)
- 1/4 cup breadcrumbs (optional, for texture)
For Assembling the Burger:
- 4 burger buns
- 4 slices of cheddar or American cheese
- 4 slices of tomato
- Lettuce leaves
- Sliced onions
- Pickles (optional)
- Mayonnaise, ketchup, and mustard (for condiments)
- Butter (for toasting buns)
Instructions
Step 1: Prepare the Beef Patties
- In a large bowl, combine ground beef with salt, pepper, garlic powder, onion powder, and Worcestershire sauce.
- Add an egg and breadcrumbs to help bind the mixture if you like, then mix gently until just combined. Avoid over-mixing as it can make the meat tough.
- Divide the meat mixture into four equal portions, rolling each portion into a ball. Flatten each ball into a patty about 3/4 inch thick.
- Use your thumb to make a slight indent in the center of each patty. This helps the patties cook evenly and prevents puffing up in the center.
Step 2: Cook the Patties
- Preheat a skillet or grill pan over medium-high heat. Lightly oil the surface to prevent sticking.
- Place patties on the hot skillet. Cook for about 3-4 minutes on each side for medium doneness, adjusting the time for preferred doneness.
- When the patties are almost done, place a slice of cheese on top of each patty. Cover with a lid or aluminum foil for 30 seconds to 1 minute, allowing the cheese to melt perfectly.
Step 3: Toast the Buns
- In a separate skillet or on the grill, spread a thin layer of butter on the insides of the burger buns.
- Toast the buns, cut side down, for 1-2 minutes until golden brown. This adds flavor and prevents the buns from getting soggy.
Step 4: Assemble the Burger
- Spread mayonnaise, ketchup, and/or mustard on the toasted side of the bottom bun.
- Place a lettuce leaf, followed by a slice of tomato and some onion slices on the bottom bun.
- Place the cheesy patty on top of the vegetables, then add pickles if you like.
- Spread some condiments on the inside of the top bun, then place it on top of the patty to complete the burger.
Step 5: Serve and Enjoy
- Serve the burgers hot with your choice of sides like French fries, potato wedges, or a fresh salad.
- Optional: Add extra cheese or bacon on top for a variation.
Enjoy this juicy, homemade cheesy burger with all the flavors of a classic favorite made right in your kitchen.
