– 1 cup heavy cream (whipping cream)
– 1 cup mascarpone cheese (room temperature)
– 1/2 cup powdered sugar
– 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
– 1 cup strong brewed coffee, cooled (can be espresso or regular coffee)
– 2 tablespoons coffee liqueur (optional, for added flavor)
– 1 tablespoon sugar (optional, adjust to taste)
– 24-30 ladyfingers (savoiardi) or sponge fingers
– Unsweetened cocoa powder for dusting
– Shaved chocolate or chocolate curls (optional, for garnish)
– In a shallow dish, combine 1 cup of cooled strong brewed coffee with 2 tablespoons of coffee liqueur (if using) and 1 tablespoon of sugar (if using). Stir until the sugar is dissolved. Set aside.
– In a large bowl, beat 1 cup of heavy cream until soft peaks form. You can use an electric mixer for this.
– In another bowl, mix 1 cup of mascarpone cheese with 1/2 cup of powdered sugar and 1 teaspoon of vanilla extract until smooth.
– Gently fold the whipped cream into the mascarpone mixture until well combined. Be careful not to deflate the whipped cream.
– Quickly dip each ladyfinger into the coffee mixture, making sure not to soak them (just a quick dip on each side).
– Arrange a layer of dipped ladyfingers in the bottom of your serving dish or individual glasses.
– Spread a layer of the mascarpone cream mixture over the ladyfingers.
– Repeat with another layer of dipped ladyfingers and another layer of cream mixture.
– Cover the dish with plastic wrap and refrigerate for at least 4 hours, or preferably overnight. This allows the flavors to meld and the dessert to set properly.
– Before serving, dust the top with unsweetened cocoa powder. You can also add shaved chocolate or chocolate curls for extra decoration if desired.
