Churros are a delicious treat, and making them eggless is definitely possible! Here’s a simple recipe for eggless churros:
– 1 cup water
– 2 tablespoons sugar
– 1/2 teaspoon salt
– 2 tablespoons vegetable oil
– 1 cup all-purpose flour
– 1/2 teaspoon baking powder
– 1/2 cup sugar
– 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
– Vegetable oil (enough for deep frying)
– In a medium saucepan, combine the water, sugar, salt, and vegetable oil. Bring to a boil over medium heat.
– Remove from heat and stir in the flour and baking powder until the mixture forms a dough. The dough should be smooth and slightly sticky. Let it cool for a few minutes.
– In a large, heavy-bottomed pot or deep fryer, heat about 2 inches of vegetable oil to 350°F (175°C). You can use a kitchen thermometer to check the temperature.
– Transfer the dough to a piping bag fitted with a star tip (or a plastic bag with the corner cut off). Pipe strips of dough directly into the hot oil, using scissors to cut the dough to your desired length. Fry a few churros at a time to avoid overcrowding.
– Fry the churros until they are golden brown and crispy, about 2-4 minutes. Turn them occasionally for even frying. Remove with a slotted spoon and drain on paper towels.
– In a shallow bowl, mix together the sugar and ground cinnamon. Roll the hot churros in the cinnamon sugar mixture until coated evenly.
– Serve the churros warm. They’re great on their own or with a side of chocolate sauce for dipping.
